Sign Painters is a loving exploration of a once ubiquitous trade, now a highly specialist skill. It’s a fantastic documentary with a wonderful cast of characters still working in the industry today across America.
You can download the film for a small charge (less than £8 in the UK and totally worth it) direct from the Sign Painters website or from iTunes. Here’s the trailer, enjoy:
Laurence King Publishing have recently re-released 2009’s Art by Tattooists in a handy mini format!
To celebrate we’re having a launch party at The Brown Derby Pub in London (nearest tube is Oval) this Saturday 21st April from 8pm. The party will feature a dressing up box, (think comedy wigs, moustaches, and amusing vintage items!) performances by Tricity Vogue and Jake Vegas, cupcakes and makeovers by the ladies from Lipstick & Curls. For full details click on the flyer below for the Facebook event page:
I’ve been keeping fairly busy with my main blog over at www.jowaterhouse.blogspot.com with various, regular posts about items I’ve been selecting for photograph for the new book on vintage fashion:
Plus various other adventures and features such as book reviews:
The main focus of my work these days is vintage themed and inspired, as I organise Vintage & Craft Fairs in Worcester as WAVE, work with vintage boutique Second Hand Rose and as previously mentioned my next book is about vintage fashion, which will be published next year.
If that sounds of interest to you then see you on the other side.
I’m excited to announce that I’m currently working on a new book. This time I’m working with Clare from Second Hand Rose here in Worcester on a book about Vintage fashion! I’ve been working with Clare for nearly two years now, working in, writing for and promoting her vintage boutiques so it was a natural progression to produce a book together!
We’ll also be working with new, international publishers Vivays Publishing who are based in London. Please follow them on Twitter & Facebook as they’re about to release some really nice books on art, design and fashion and interiors to name a few!
Here’s some more info about the new book and how you can contribute:
Combining their passion and knowledge of vintage clothing plus Clare’s experience of owning/running a vintage shop and Jo’s background as an arts author with four books already under her belt, they’ll be producing a new book focusing on everyday, affordable, accessible vintage fashion with lots of tips on vintage styling!
The second half of the book will look at vintage street style and here’s how you can contribute! Do you mix vintage items into your everyday wardrobe and have a unique, super stylish look that’s all your own? Then we’d love to hear from you! We’re looking for photo submissions, preferably outdoor, street-fashion type shots from vintage loving fashionistas all over the world!
Email photos taken on the highest setting possible (so they’ll be big enough to use in print without pixelating, preferably 300dpi), and think about lighting and background in the pictures so they’re as clear as possible. Then EMAIL YOUR PHOTOS TO US! Please include your name and where you’re based, and if we can use your picture we’ll be back in touch with a few questions about your style and inspirations!
I’ll post more news on the new book as I have it.
